Kiev’s forces hit a feed-processing plant in the area, according to regional head Aleksandr Khinstein
Four people have been killed and two others wounded in a Ukrainian military strike that hit a feed-processing plant in Kursk Region, western Russia, local governor Aleksandr Khinstein has said.
The attack on Wednesday morning targeted a facility in the village of Kozyrevka, Khinstein wrote in a post on Telegram.
According to first reports, four employees of the feed-processing plant were killed, including three men and one woman, he said.
Another worker was seriously wounded in the strike and rushed to a hospital, while his colleague who suffered minor injuries was treated on the spot, the governor added.
Khinstein said that the attack on civilians is sign that the Kiev authorities are in a state of “agony.”
The governor expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, promising that they would be provided with all necessary assistance and support from the Kursk regional administration.
One of the workshops at the plant was completely destroyed in the strike, with other property also suffering damage, he said.
On Monday, four people were killed and several others wounded when Ukrainian forces targeted a shopping center in the village of Belaya in the Belovsky district.
The next day, Russia repelled the largest Ukrainian drone raid since the escalation between the two countries in February 2022, which involved a total of 337 UAVs. The intensification of attacks comes amid setbacks suffered by Kiev’s troops in Kursk Region where they have been conducting an incursion since early August 2024.
On Tuesday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the liberation of 12 villages around the town of Sudzha, the largest settlement controlled by Ukraine in the area.

Ukraine has sabotaged itself by breaching Russia’s trust in the past, the foreign minister has said
Moscow has ample reasons to distrust Ukraine and its Western backers given their history of broken promises, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said. He accused Kiev of consistently undermining its own interests with each act of “cheating.”
Russia has “burned [its] fingers” many times dealing with the West, Lavrov said in an interview with podcasters Mario Nawfal, Larry Johnson, and Andrew Napolitano published on Wednesday.
He stated that the Ukraine crisis could be traced back to at least 2004, when the country’s constitutional court “expanded, without any right, the constitutional procedures” and ordered a third round in a presidential election, resulting in a victory for a Western-aligned candidate.
The 2014 Western-backed coup in Kiev, the Minsk agreements, and the 2022 Istanbul peace talks between Russia and Ukraine were also examples of missed opportunities, Lavrov added.
”Had they [Ukrainians] been cooperative and had they delivered on their own initiative, they would still have 1991 borders, minus Crimea, minus some part of Donbass. Every time they cheat, they lose,” the minister stated.
The Turkish-mediated draft truce in 2022 would have transformed Ukraine into a neutral state with some territorial concessions. However, then-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Kiev “don’t do it, continue to fight,” Lavrov said.
Following talks between Washington and Kiev on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump said Russia’s reaction to his proposal of a 30-day ceasefire would inform him on whether Moscow genuinely wants peace.
Lavrov, however, noted that Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky had received a hero’s welcome in the UK after his clash with Trump at the White House last month.
“It’s an indication that they want to raise the stakes and they are preparing something to pressure the Donald Trump administration back into some aggressive action against Russia,” Lavrov said. Moscow will not compromise on “the fate of the Russian people,” he added, referring to Russian citizens and ethnic Russians in Ukraine.
Lavrov criticized the proposals by several European countries, including the UK and France, to deploy a “peacekeeping force” in Ukraine. “If NATO expansion is recognized – at least by Donald Trump – as one of the root causes [of the conflict], then the presence of the troops from NATO countries under any flag, in any capacity, on Ukrainian soil is the same threat,” he warned.

A court has found Mikhail Saakashvili guilty of embezzling $3.2 million
Former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has been sentenced to nine years for embezzlement, according to local media.
Georgian authorities detained Saakashvili in October 2021 when he secretly returned to the country during an election and accused the former head of state of abusing power, embezzling funds, and committing other offenses during his tenure. While incarcerated, the former president has repeatedly complained about his poor health.
The Georgian TV channel Mtavari Arxi said on Wednesday that Saakashvili has been found guilty of embezzling $3.2 million in state funds in the so-called “suits and bouquets” case.
Teimuraz Janashia, the ex-president’s former head of security, also received a guilty verdict, but was let off with a fine of 3,000 lari (around $1,000), according to the broadcaster.
Saakashvili was first charged with embezzlement in 2014. Prosecutors said that during his presidency, he used state money to buy suits, coats, watches and other items for himself as well as pay for his son’s education, undergo cosmetic procedures and rent expensive cars and a plane.
In August 2008, Saakashvili ordered Georgian troops to invade the breakaway republic of South Ossetia, which provoked a short military conflict with Russia after its peacekeepers stationed in the area were targeted. His presidency is also remembered for a violent crackdown on anti-government protesters.
Saakashvili fled the country after his term in office ended. In 2015, he obtained a Ukrainian passport and was appointed the governor of Odessa Region by then-President Pyotr Poroshenko. However, he only held the position for a year and resigned amid a scandal, accusing the Kiev authorities of being corrupt.
