The US freezing military assistance to Kiev would be a great contribution to peace, Russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said
Halting US military aid to Ukraine would be a significant step toward resolving the conflict, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Tuesday.
Several US media outlets have reported that Washington has suspended the purchase of new weapons for Ukraine. Several reports have also suggested that US President Donald Trump has also ordered a halt to shipments of military aid.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Peskov stated that while the details of these reports have yet to be confirmed, such a move could prove to be a significant step towards de-escalation.
“It is obvious that the US has been the main supplier” of military aid to Kiev, Peskov noted, adding that if the US were to relinquish this role or suspend supplies altogether it would “probably be the best contribution to the cause of peace.”
The spokesman said that if the US had indeed stopped all military aid to Ukraine, it would mean that Kiev would effectively lose the vast majority of its ammunition, equipment and intelligence.
“If this really is so… then perhaps, without indulging in excessive optimism, we can modestly hope that this could encourage the Kiev regime to lean towards attempts to resolve the situation through peaceful means,” Peskov told Rossiya 1 TV journalist Pavel Zarubin.
According to Bloomberg, Trump has ordered a freeze on all military aid to Ukraine, which includes equipment already designated for delivery, as well as weapons in transit on aircraft and ships or waiting in transit areas in Poland. The New York Times reported that the president’s order, which has already taken effect, affects more than $1 billion in “arms and ammunition in the pipeline and on order.”
Meanwhile, the Washington Post claimed that in addition to stopping weapons shipments to Kiev, Washington is also considering the termination of intelligence sharing and training for Ukrainian troops and pilots.
Trump’s reported order comes after a public spat with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky in the White House on Friday. During the meeting, Trump accused Zelensky of ingratitude and “gambling with World War III” by refusing to work towards a halt to hostilities.
After the heated exchange, Zelensky stated on Sunday that peace between Ukraine and Russia was still “very, very far away,” prompting even more ire from Trump, who said it was “the worst statement that could have been made” by the Ukrainian leader.
Trump warned that “America will not put up with it for much longer,” and suggested that Zelensky “doesn’t want there to be Peace as long as he has America’s backing.”

More bodies of civilians have reportedly been discovered in a recently liberated village in Russia’s Kursk Region
Several more bodies of civilians have been discovered in Russkoye Porechnoye, a village in Kursk Region, a Telegram channel affiliated with the Russian military has reported.
Russia’s Investigative Committee previously opened a case into the deaths of dozens of locals at the hands of Kiev’s troops that had been occupying the village before its liberation in January.
The bodies were found on the outskirts of the village, the ‘Severny Veter’ (‘Northern Wind’) Telegram channel reported on Monday. Russian troops were only able to scout the area after neutralizing Ukrainian firing positions in the neighboring village of Cherkasskoye Porechnoye, the channel said.
“We are deeply sorry [to say] that bodies of locals that were brutally murdered by Ukrainian Nazis were discovered in the area,” said the channel. It did not specify the exact number of bodies found, but said that the information has already been handed over to Russia’s investigative authorities.
‘Severny Veter’ also published a video from the scene showing at least two bodies, with one lying in the yard of a private house and another discovered in what appears to be a cellar or a room of a building filled with debris and rubble. The Russian Investigative Committee has not commented on these developments so far.
Russkoye Porechnoye was liberated in early January following months of occupation. Ukrainian troops launched a major cross-border incursion into Kursk Region last August, marking the largest attack on internationally recognized Russian territory since the escalation of hostilities between Moscow and Kiev in February 2022.
The area under Ukrainian control has been steadily shrinking, with the Russian military retaking the occupied territories. Last month, the Russian General Staff reported that around two thirds of the territory that had initially been captured by the Ukrainian military during the incursion has been liberated.
Following the liberation of Russkoye Porechnoye, Russian investigators alleged that Kiev’s troops had raped, tortured, and murdered the local inhabitants. They published gruesome videos of bodies piled in cellars in some of the homes inside the community. Several captured Ukrainian servicemen acknowledged committing the crimes while being interrogated, saying they had been acting on the orders of their commanders.
A total of 22 civilians were killed in the village, the Investigative Committee said in January, adding that the Ukrainian soldiers had also raped at least eight local women before killing them. According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, Kiev’s troops had turned the cellars of the local homes into “torture chambers.”

Mikhail Murashko has identified overweight people as a serious national concern
Nearly one in four adult Russians grapple with obesity, a pressing public health concern that the government is determined to address, according to Health Minister Mikhail Murashko.
Last year, the national adult obesity rate was 24.6%, with women disproportionately affected, the official said at a forum in Moscow on Tuesday. Reducing this figure is a top priority for the ministry, along with combating alcohol and tobacco abuse – habits that, according to government estimates, deprive vulnerable Russians of an average of seven years of life. The ministry is also committed to promoting reproductive health, Murashko said.
He emphasized that tackling obesity requires a long-term strategy focused on children aged 7 to 11. The minister pointed out that kids face particularly severe health risks from excessive body mass and are more prone to becoming obese, with nearly 33% of Russians in this age group classified as such. He asserted that fostering healthy diets and fitness habits in children is essential for tackling the problem.
Last October, Murashko warned that the number of Russians living with obesity had increased by 10% in five years, reaching 2.4 million. Health officials say the problem is increasingly serious in younger generations, contributing to life-threatening heart conditions and other threats to health.
According to the World Health Organization, obesity is becoming an increasingly widespread global problem, with 890 million adults estimated to be living with it in 2022. Worldwide obesity rates have doubled since 1990.

The step is necessary to improve US-Russia relations, spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said
Western sanctions against Moscow would have to be lifted to restore relations between the US and Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Tuesday.
The comment follows a Reuters report on Monday which claimed the US was drawing up a plan to potentially give Russia sanctions relief. Since assuming office, US President Donald Trump has sought to restore ties with Moscow and negotiate a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict.
According to Peskov, Moscow has not yet heard any official statements on the issue and considers the restrictions illegal.
“If we talk about normalizing bilateral relations, they need to be freed from this negative burden of so-called sanctions,” he stressed.
Initially imposed in 2014 following Crimea’s reunification with Russia, US sanctions have been expanded through multiple executive orders and were recently extended for another year through March 6, 2026. According to various estimates, however, the restrictions have largely failed to reach their stated purpose. In 2023, Russia’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 3.6%, according to the national statistical service Rosstat. Last year, the economy grew 4.1%, surpassing the official forecast of 3.9%, as reported by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
Last month, Trump held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with discussions aimed at resolving the Ukraine conflict and restoring bilateral ties. Subsequently, high-level meetings have taken place in Saudi Arabia and Türkiye between US and Russian officials.
Trump announced last month that he was “trying to do some economic development deals” with Russia, noting its “massive rare earth” deposits. He also signaled that sanctions could be lifted “at some point.”
Moscow said in response that it is open to economic cooperation with Washington, including in energy and mining.

A lawmaker who supports Vladimir Zelensky has condemned a conciliatory statement urging continued US aid
Ukrainian MP Nikita Poturaev has criticized a parliamentary appeal to US President Donald Trump to maintain military support. He described the English-language statement expressing gratitude to the American leader and endorsing his agenda as misleading.
Multiple media reports have said that Trump has suspended the shipment of US arms this week, following an acrimonious exchange with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky in the Oval Office last Friday. The US president remarked on Monday that anyone undermining his goal of bringing peace to Ukraine “won’t be around for long.” Senior US officials have urged Zelensky to apologize for confronting Trump publicly and demanding immediate security guarantees, which Washington has refused to provide.
While Zelensky has not acknowledged any misstep, a statement late on Monday by the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, adopted a conciliatory tone. Issued on behalf of its leadership and parliamentary committees, it expressed “profound gratitude” for American assistance and emphasized that Ukraine “deeply respects the aspirations of the great American people toward the comprehensive restoration of the United States’ global leadership” and urging Trump to recommit to “unwavering support” for Kiev.
Poturaev, a staunch ally of Zelensky who has referred to Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance as “scum playacting hardcore gangsters and racketeers,” rejected the statement in a Facebook post, asserting that parliament “did not address anyone in Washington.” Poturaev heads the Rada’s humanitarian committee, one of the presumed sponsors of the appeal. By contrast, MP Galina Yanchenko characterized the message as an effort to “build bridges and preserve crucial military aid” from the US. Both lawmakers are members of Zelensky’s Servant of the People party.
Following the verbal clash in the White House, some US officials, including Senator Lindsey Graham, a longtime Ukraine supporter, said that Zelensky should consider stepping down to repair the growing diplomatic rift.
Meanwhile, Zelensky has reaffirmed his position, insisting he intended no offense toward the American government or people. Speaking to Western journalists in London on Sunday, he claimed that his respect was demonstrated by the fact that he spent 23 hours traveling to Washington at Trump’s invitation.

Alexander Stubb has compared the recent falling out between the US and Ukrainian leaders to a marital dispute
US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky should go to a sauna to fix their relationship, Finnish President Alexander Stubb has suggested, likening their recent White House squabble to a dispute between spouses.
Last Friday, Zelensky traveled to Washington to sign a minerals deal with the US. However, his visit was cut short after he was asked to leave the White House after a heated exchange between himself, Trump and US Vice President J.D. Vance. The Ukrainian leader was accused of ungratefulness, disrespecting the Oval Office and “gambling with World War III” by refusing to work towards peace with Russia.
Reacting to the incident in an interview with Bloomberg on Monday, Stubb stated that “it always takes two to tango” and noted that “sometimes in marriage or in other types of relationships, you go into your corner and sulk.”
However, he said that eventually, both sides have to talk, shake hands and move on.
Stubb suggested that to patch things up, Zelensky and Trump should act “Finnish” and “take a deep breath, take a cold bath, a sauna, breathe and come back to the negotiating table.”
The Finnish president said the way forward is for the two leaders to resume talks and finalize the minerals deal, as this would likely become the “tipping point for a bigger deal towards a ceasefire and then towards peace negotiations.”
Following the White House debacle, Zelensky maintained that he did nothing wrong while Trump accused the Ukrainian leader of not actually wanting peace with Moscow and seeking to exploit US support for his own gain.
According to Fox News, citing an unnamed US official, the White House is now demanding that Zelensky issue a public apology for his demeanor on Friday before resuming negotiations on the rare earths deal.
Meanwhile, several US media outlets have reported that Washington has suspended funding for any new arms sales to Ukraine and is considering freezing weapon shipments to the country from American stockpiles.

The suspect allegedly surveyed military sites near Voronezh for Ukrainian intelligence
A Russian man is facing treason charges for allegedly selling sensitive information about the nation’s military to Ukrainian intelligence, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB).
The suspect, whose name remains undisclosed, contacted the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) last year, offering cooperation as a surveillance operative, the FSB stated on Tuesday.
Since then, he has reportedly provided the SBU with intelligence concerning several locations near Voronezh, including a military base and ammunition depots on the outskirts of the central Russian city. In a video shared by the Russian agency, he also admitted to monitoring military aircraft take-offs and landings for Ukrainian agents.
Currently in custody, the accused faces severe penalties, potentially life imprisonment, if convicted, the FSB said.
The SBU plays a crucial role in the Ukraine conflict, including conducting sabotage operations and targeted assassinations on Russian territory.
Last week, the FSB reported stopping a Ukrainian plot to murder a Russian bishop. Metropolitan Tikhon leads the Simferopol and Crimean diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, which makes him a target both as a senior figure in an organization that Kiev views as hostile and as a spiritual leader in the Russian peninsula that Ukraine claims under its sovereignty.

The Lancet attack purportedly place in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region
A video published online on Tuesday reportedly shows a Ukrainian tank burning out from the inside after a Russian kamikaze drone strike.
The clip was released by a Telegram channel associated with the Russian ‘North’ task force involved in the Ukraine conflict.
The footage shows what appears to be a tank under camouflage covers hidden among trees in a snowy landscape. The area is hit by an explosion, resulting in the destruction of the armored vehicle.
According to the description, Russian troops used a Lancet loitering munition to hit the tank, most likely an older Soviet model, near the village of Velikiye Prokhody in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region, some 10km from the Russian border. This part of the front line is the area of responsibility of the North grouping of Russian forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry’s Monday update mentioned fighting near the border city of Volchansk in Kharkov Region, around 45km east from Velikiye Prokhody.

The US president will play a “decisive” role in achieving a ceasefire with Russia, the Verkhovna Rada said
Ukraine’s 450-seat parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, released a statement on Monday evening saying that US President Donald Trump will play a key role in negotiating a peace deal between Kiev and Moscow.
The public endorsement of Trump’s mediation efforts comes after Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky refused to apologize for last week’s public spat with Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance in the White House.
In a statement on the parliamentary website, the MPs stressed the “decisive” role of American aid and said that the Rada “welcomes President Donald Trump’s initiatives to launch a negotiation process aimed at securing peace.”
“On behalf of the Ukrainian people, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expresses its profound gratitude to President Donald Trump, the United States Congress, and the American people for their firm and consistent support of Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” the statement read.
“At present, this support is more crucial than ever for the Ukrainian people and the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine,” the legislators wrote. They added that they believe that Trump’s mediation efforts “will be decisive in the swift cessation of hostilities and the achievement of peace for Ukraine, Europe, and the entire world.”
The Rada also stressed “the necessity of further developing the strategic partnership with the United States, particularly in the exploration of critical minerals.”
The feud between Trump and Zelensky escalated last month after officials in Kiev and Brussels criticized Trump for opening direct talks with Moscow without their advice and approval. Trump branded Zelensky “a dictator,” while his team blasted the Ukrainian leader for declining to sign a deal on the development of his country’s critical mineral deposits.
The meeting in the White House on Friday descended into a rare public shouting match, with Vice President J.D. Vance accusing Zelensky of being ungrateful for the military and financial aid America has provided since 2022. Trump later claimed that his guest in the Oval Office was being disrespectful and did not want peace in Ukraine.
In an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier on Friday, Zelensky refused to apologize to Trump directly. He reiterated that Ukraine was seeking security guarantees from the US and needed to be in a “strong position” in a potential ceasefire deal.
In a post on X, Zelensky thanked Trump, the US Congress, and the American people. “Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that,” he wrote.
Trump has so far ruled out providing specific security guarantees, such as admitting Ukraine into NATO or contributing American troops to a future peacekeeping mission. He also argued that Zelensky did “not have the cards” to complain about being sidelined during the US-Russia talks that took place last month in Riyadh.

19 out of 31 Abrams tanks have been destroyed or damaged in combat, the newspaper has reported
The Ukrainian army has lost the majority of the M1 Abrams tanks supplied to it by the US, the New York Times reported on Monday. Unnamed Kiev officials told the newspaper that 19 out of 31 Abrams tanks delivered to the front line have been captured, destroyed, or severely damaged. The tanks were billed as a potential “game changer” in the conflict with Russia.
Russian drone and artillery strikes have proven highly effective against the US-made armor, NYT reported. Nearly all of the remaining tanks have been withdrawn from the front lines, the newspaper added, citing Ukrainian officials.
Washington delivered the first Abrams tanks to Kiev in September 2023. Shortly after their deployment, the Russian Defense Ministry began releasing videos of Abrams tanks burning on the battlefield, with at least one tank captured and put on display in August at the Army-2024 expo held in Patriot Park just outside Moscow.
After former US president Joe Biden approved deliveries to Kiev in January 2023, multiple US media outlets described them as a “game changer” ahead of a much-touted counteroffensive against Russian forces. In September the same year Ukraine’s top military spy, Kirill Budanov, noted that the tanks “will not live very long on the battlefield” and should only be used in “very specific, well-crafted operations.” In December 2024, former US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan admitted the Abrams was “not useful” for Ukraine.
Even before Biden authorized their delivery to Ukraine, US military officials warned that the Abrams tanks would prove unsuitable for Kiev’s needs.
According to Military Watch Magazine estimates from September 2024, “close” to 20 of the 31 tanks were reported to be destroyed. The article pointed out that Ukrainian crews have complained to Western media over the US tanks’ performance, including technical issues, such as the vulnerability of electronic components to condensation. Another supposed gripe has been the “sheer size” of Abrams tanks, which has allegedly made them an easy target for Russian forces.
Throughout last summer, the Russian Defense Ministry published multiple videos, purportedly showing the destruction of US-made tanks. In at least some of these cases, Krasnopol-guided artillery shells were deployed, according to military officials.
